The Library is pleased to host a month long exhibit of work by Brighid Graves, A reception will be held on Friday, January 4th.
Graves is a Bennington, VT based scrap
wood artist. Brighid creates unique art from discarded pieces of wood. Her wood wall quilts and abstract wood
mosaics capture both a rustic and a modern sensibility. She plays with shape
and texture through her choice of materials.
Brighid is a self taught wood worker and artist. “I enjoy turning something broken into
something new and different. It's not just fixing something, it's re-imagining
something. Each piece of wood has it's own story and I get to add to the
story.” In 2017 she embarked on a year
long art project called 365 days of peace. In an effort to develop a creative
habit, and turn anger, and apathy in to compassion and action, Brighid made a peace sign every day for a
year. The project, 365 days of peace, explored violence and change became a
philosophical journey as well as an artistic exercise. She hopes to turn the
experience into a book. website
